I love the layout and how he covers everything! He even includes some recipes! The only reason I'm giving it a 3 start review is because of the lack of details when it comes to photos. Many of the photos are missing captioned. For example, in the wife making chapter there are photos of broccoli with titles like "an example if blueberry wine"...My OCD is not happy about it. Over all the rest of the content is awesome and very helpful.
I purchased 15 copies of this book for a educational program. Almost all of them have editorial errors. For example, in the wine making section there are pictures of broccoli with captions under the pictures saying something like 'This is a typical carboy setup'. The pictures and captions do not match.Other than this the book is great with lots of good information.
All thought the information is great in the book. I have found that there are many errors in here that make using some parts of this book difficult. I have contacted Amazon and returned one item and only had it replaced with another with the same errors. Would I purchase this again.. .No. I think I would find it useful to order individual books on individual sections. I might actually get the information I need then.
Purchased this book for my husband who was raised on a farm. We are changing our gardening practices so I thought we needed a good reference to help us redesign our garden system. We have installed 4 raised garden beds this year and plan to add a few more each year. Our family of 5 tries to raise as much food as possible to help feed us during the year. We have started a fruit arbor and orchard. Once I explained to my husband that I am very confident in his gardening and just wanted to help us garden on a smaller scale, he started reading the book and is enjoying the information. We sit down as a family and talk about different subjects raised in this book and decide if it will work for us.
Great Stuff, I've been doing a small family farm for many years, needed to optimize and expand and this helped me out greatly. I got the kindle version but I think I may buy the paperback just to have it on the shelf for easy reference!
Hey!! Stop looking. This book is it. Lots of information. Logical. Well laid out. Inspiring...it even inspired me to make my own herbal vinegar. And I'm not a herbal venegar guy.
Not as exhaustive as I'd hoped, will still have to purchase a few more books to feel like I could learn enough to save seeds etc.
Offers excellent individual crop requirements and is an excellent compliment to the original mini farming self sufficiency on a 1/4 acre.
